Rica scores straight-set win against Barbados
MAYAGUEZ, Puerto Rico, July 20, 2010 – Costa Rica finished with
a 2-1 record in Pool A of the women’s volleyball tournament at
the XXI Central American and Caribbean Games after defeating
Barbados in straight sets (25-19, 25-18, 25-11).
Costa Rican Mariela Quesada totaled 14 points including five
aces while Karen Copa and Verania Willis contributed 11 and 9
points respectively.
Shari Matthews and Anicia Wood had 11 and 9 for Barbados.
“We went out to win the match and finish second in our pool,”
Willis said. “Our goal is to continue advancing and battling for
one of the medals.”
“I am disappointed because I think we are technically at the
same level of Costa Rica even though they are taller than us,”
Janelle Chase-Mayers of Barbados said.
